Housing Options

West Lothian Council have set up the housing Options wizard as a tool to assist you in finding out all the housing options which are available in West Lothian. By asking a series of questions (including your household size, tenure, income, etc.), the options wizard will provide you with a personalised summary of the housing options that are suitable to you. At the end of the process you are provided with an Action Plan (which you can email or print off) and this provides details on the next steps you may wish to take.

On average it takes between 10 to 15 minutes to enter your personal information. You may then want to take time to read through your options, but remember you can come back to your Case anytime by using the unique reference number the system will provide and print out your Action Plan for reference.

Please note that completing the Housing options wizard does not mean that you have applied for housing with West Lothian Council. Instructions on how to do this are provided on the Councils web site and in the Social Housing information page in your Action Plan.

Will We Contact you?

West Lothian Council will not normally call users of the housing options wizard. Whilst you are asked to give permission for us to contact you, please note that contact is usually made for the purposes of surveys, etc. only.

As a condition of using this tool, you agree and consent to West Lothian Council using, and sharing, with third parties, your contact information (i.e. your name, email and physical / postal address and / or other contact details) for all purposes directly connected with your housing option information.

You can use the search option to find all available private rented accommodation throughout Mid , East and West Lothian. Edinburgh city and Scottish borders.

Three easy steps to find the right rental property for you

• 1. Using the search options, select exactly what you are looking for and where (eg. the location, size of property,
• 2. Use the shortlist of properties to narrow down your search, or look at the properties available on the interactive map (draw a map function)
• 3. Contact the landlord(s) on the details provided

Listings will detail all aspects of the property (eg. Property size, facilities, eligibility, cost etc) including the landlord’s details who you can contact directly.

Rent deposit guarantee Scheme

West Lothian Council operate a rent deposit guarantee scheme. The Home Choice team will guarantee the deposit for the property so you don’t need to pay this upfront. You will instead be able to pay this up in regular affordable payments over the 1st 6-12 months. All properties within West Lothian are eligible for the scheme providing they meet the Scottish Core standards and the landlord /agent agrees.
